Charitable works by SEIU 668 Members

On January 7th, 2010 SEIU 668 representatives, John Terpko, Chapter 4 Chairperson and Brian Orczeck, Chapter 4 Veterans Liaison, distributed 1185 pairs of socks from the state-wide “Socks for SWEB” drive to 2 Veterans Centers (The Veterans Center and Shepherd’s Heart) and 3 Veterans Administration Medical Centers (Highland Park, University Drive and H J Heinz). The volunteer coordinators all send a heart-felt thanks to each of the members that made this drive so productive. It was stated,” We can really use these! Socks get soiled and ruined so quickly in this environment that we never seem to have enough. It’s really good for the vets to know that people still care about them.”
The socks will be provided to recently-separated, aging, homeless and disabled veterans who are facing hardship.
In addition, community service is catchy. With the contacts made while delivering the socks, the squadron in which First Sergeant John Terpko is attached, the 911 Communications Squadron, didn’t want to be outdone. When it was found that there was a need for instructors to volunteer their time to these veterans to broaden their computer skills, six individuals from the squadron immediately stepped up to the serve those that have served us. Computer classes for the H J Heinz Center will be starting soon!
Looks like SEIU is teaming up with military to make the world a better place .

On December 12, 1009, the Erie-Crawford Community Services Committee which PSSU SEIU Chapter One was a part of gave a Christmas party, more specifically, a “Lunch with Santa, a filled stocking, a nice gift for each of the children who attended, and a small gift for those mothers who selflessly put the needs of their children first. The party was held at the Safe-Net, a community organization that serves women and children who fall through the crack so to speak. They are living in their own homes and receive non-residential services from Safe-Net. They are working (in low paying jobs) and do not qualify for many of the programs available to those in shelters.
