VICTORY for workers who support youth with developmental disabilities!

Workers who support youth with developmental disabilities vote to join SEIU Local 668

More than 80 residential staff at Mars Home for Youth in Pennsylvania have finally won their union with SEIU Local 668, prevailing in spite of employer delays and multiple overtime violations. Workers voted yes for SEIU Local 668 to improve safety, win better pay and gain more respect for the critical services they provide to young people with developmental disabilities.

The union election was on January 5, 2010 but the employer used delay tactics to prevent the NLRB from counting the votes until this month. The Department of Wage and Hour also found the employer to be in violation of overtime laws and as a result, several Mars workers are currently receiving back pay.

The obstacles faced by Mars workers are all too common and are another reminder of the dire need for labor law reform that helps keep employers in check and preserves workers’ free choice.
