Steward training for the Chapter was completed before the Chapter Meeting.
The Business Agents that did the training were: Charlene Smith, Jon Hitchings and Al Smith Jr. Secretary/Treasurer Roni Hamiel was also present.
The Chapter Meeting was presided over by Chapter President Laurie Kubli and opened at 3:00 pm.
A motion was made by Karen Heasley and 2nd by Pam McClimans to approve the minutes of the 8/20/09 Chapter Meeting. Motion approved.
BA Reports
Jon Hitchings
He reported that we did lose the organizing campaign for LifeSteps in Cambria County.
The company spent 15 million dollars to keep the union out.
Charlene Smith
There is currently an arbitration hearing concerning the Erie County Jail. It does look favorable.
There is also an ongoing arbitration hearing concerning the parking for Erie County OCY. There has been no decision yet.
Contract negotiations are currently going on for Venango County employees.
We did organize the Sheriff Deputies and Program Specialists in Crawford County. They will be included in the current contract.
Al Smith Jr.
Al is helping with the Butler County ARC to get a contract. They have been unable to settle on an agreement with the county. They did an informational picket on 9/17/09 and they have sent a strike notice for a 1 day strike on 9/29/09.
Committee reports:
OVR
Russ Goddard reported that OVR will be having their next Statewide Meet & Discuss on 10/5 and 10/6/09 in Harrisburg. The meeting will be about the new computer system and how it is actually slowing down their work.
A motion was made by Karen Heasley and 2nd by Sara Dudash to approve the 10/1/09 – 9/30/10 Chapter Budget. The budget is basically the same as last year’s. Motion approved.
Secretary/Treasurer Roni Hamiel was asked where the rollover money from the 08/09 Chapter budget will be used. She stated that it will be going into the PSSU Human Services Campaign. She also announced that there will be Regional Leadership Training next year for PSSU members and there be on Lobby Day in 2010.
Other motions:
A motion was made by Karen Heasley and 2nd by Pam McClimans to purchase a table for 10 for A Taste of the Town on 10/19/09 at the New Englander in New Castle. The dinner is sponsored by the United Way of Lawrence County. The cost is $300.00 Motion approved.
A motion was made by Karen Heasley and 2nd by Laurie Kubli to purchase a table of 8 for the Fall 2009 Banquet for the Beaver-Lawrence Central Labor Council and to purchase a half page ad for the booklet. The banquet is 10/22/09 at the Fez Hall in Hopewell Twp. and the cost is $400.00 for the table and $50.00 for the ad. Motion passed.
A motion was made by Pam McClimans and 2nd by Karen Heasley to pay for an interpreter for 9/19/09 Chapter meeting. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Karen Heasley and 2nd by Pam McClimans to provide refreshments for the 9/21/09 Beaver-Lawrence Central Labor Council at a minimal cost to the Chapter. Motion passed.
There was discussion concerning the next Chapter Meeting on when it should be held and where and how to get more Chapter members to attend. There was discussion to maybe give t-shirts to Chapter members when they attend a meeting. Chapter President Laurie Kubli is going to contact Harrisburg and get some prices and it can be discussed at the next Chapter meeting. It was decided to hold the next Chapter meeting on Saturday, 12/12/09. The meeting will be a “Holiday Meet & Greet”. Laurie is looking for a committee to help with the meeting and suggestions of where the meeting could be held. A motion was made by Karen Heasley and 2nd by Pam McClimans to adjourn the meeting at 4:15 pm. Motion approved.
