Chapter Minutes

Chapter Chair Laurie Kubli opened the meeting at 7:00 pm.
She had everyone present at the meeting introduce themselves and what agency they represented.
There were five motions presented.
A motion was made by Dan Richards and 2nd by Dan McGivern to approve the minutes from the December 2009 Chapter Meeting. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Dan Richards and 2nd by Mary Ann Isaac to cover the expenses and lost wages for Chapter Chair Laurie Kubli to visit shops in our Chapter and to facilitate member involvement. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Mary Ann Isaac and 2nd by Dan Richards to move line items within the Chapter budget. To transfer funds from Miscellaneous Expenses to Chapter Office Expenses in the amount of $1500.00. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Sue Urbassik and 2nd by Dan Richards to purchase one table for the Beaver-Lawrence CLC Human Rights Banquet to be held 4/10/2010 at the Fez Hall in Hopewell Twp. It is a table of eight at the cost of $240.00. Motion approved.
Chapter Chair Laurie Kubli stated that she would try to visit more shops within the Chapter.
Chapter Chair Laurie Kubli gave a SWEB Report:
She stated that Health Care Reform is still important and she urged all union members to call their legislators and give their opinion on the Health Care Issue.
Laurie reported that Harrisburg is planning a Lobby Day for 6/15/10. Details are to follow. Also, there is to be a Statewide Leadership Training in the fall. The place has not been determined.
Laurie reported that Secretary/Treasurer Roni Hamiel did give a report at SWEB on the situation in Butler County with the county employees who still don’t have a contract. County Commissioner Dale Pinkerton has singled out PSSU members and disclosed private information that should not be announced to the general public. Several Unfair Labor practices have been filed. Currently negotiations for a fair contract are continuing and hopefully there will be a resolution at some point. Secretary/Treasurer Roni Hamiel and Business Agent Laura Kowalski are trying to mobilize the membership.
Committee Reports
Dan Richards gave a report on the New Castle YDC.
There are many personnel issues currently being addressed and there are issues with job classifications and management trying to change them without union approval.
Mary Ann Isaac gave a CAO Report.
There is a computer glitch with a new computer system Harrisburg has been trying to implement. Joann Glover actually apologized for the computer system failure and has delayed implementation. Harrisburg has started hiring County Assistance office caseworkers statewide, but is now doing the complement by area and not by county.
Lynda McNeill announced that Jack Wagner will be at the Mahoning Valley Grange Hall in New Castle on 4/1/2010 and that union members should attend so that we can show him a good union presence.
It was explained to the members that it is important to attend the two Legislative Brunches that have been scheduled for this Chapter. The first one is 4/24/2010 at the Quality Inn in Franklin and includes Venango, Mercer, Armstrong and Clarion counties. The second one is 5/1/2010 and it is at the Holiday Inn in Beaver Falls and includes Beaver, Lawrence and Butler counties. If interested contact Jamie in the Erie office at 1-800-910-6672, ext. 10.
The members were told how important it is to contribute to COPE. The only way that we can get legislators to listen to our issues is if we have money to contribute to their campaigns and we cannot use dues money.
A motion was made by Dan Richards and 2nd by Sue Urbassik to adjourn at 8:05 pm. Motion approved.
Laurie stated that she would decide where and when the next Chapter meeting would be. She stated that she is always open to suggestions of where the Chapter meetings can be held to improve attendance.
