SEIU Local 668, would like to congratulate Leonard “Bud” Santimyer on his upcoming retirement on July 4th, 2020, or as he refers to it “ his Independence day.”

Bud began his career with Westmorland County in February of 1988, in the Microfilm Management Department (now known as Records Management). He is ending his career working in Westmorland County Tax Assessment Department.

Bud was originally a member of Local 585, which at the time represented county workers in Westmoreland, which later split and joined with SEIU Healthcare PA. Bud began researching labor history and learned that PSSU represented county workers in other areas of Pennsylvania. He wanted to be part of our union because it protected workers from being neglected or attacked by bad management.

Since signing his union card, Bud has been incredibly active in the Westmoreland labor movement. He served as the Westmoreland Chapter President of Local 585 before the split. As a member of Local 668, Bud has served as  Chief Shop Steward, Vice President of Chapter 4, and has also been an active delegate on the Westmoreland Labor Council.

Bud’s labor activism will truly be missed as he begins his next chapter of retirement. “Bud will be hard to replace as Vice President of Chapter 4,” said Kristopher Grimes, current Chapter 4 Chair. Members will especially miss Bud’s Westmoreland SEIU newsletter, which he began printing back in 1995. The publication highlighted the ongoings of all SEIU shops in the county, including both Local 668 as well as Healthcare PA news.

Again, our Local wants to wish Bud all the best on his retirement, and we hope he continues his union activism into his retirement!
