State Budget Update 10-1-09

We are now 93 days without a budget. The "hand shake" agreement of 2 weeks ago has fallen apart. The Commonwealth has issued a 30-day furlough notice to all the state unions. They provided no other information, other than to say that when a final budget is reached they may have to act quickly on furloughs. They did not give numbers or departments affected. There may be no layoffs at SEIU 668 or many. The website will be updated when further information becomes avaialble.

PLEASE continue to call, write, email and visit your legislators and ask that they support a budget that FULLY funds public services. Continue to rally and have Tuesday breakouts and to wear purple on Fridays. This budget impasse has now affected the jobs of our county members as agencies are closing and/or layoffs occuring as no state money is moving into the county agencies to fund public services.
