Philly Healthcare Workers Achieve First Contract After Long Year of Bargaining

Late last evening, the SEIU Local 668 Public Health Management Corp. (PHMC) negotiation team in Philadelphia reached a tentative agreement on a first contract for workers at PHMC. This group of workers, who consist of Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers, Nurses, Physician Assistants and other professional clinicians, organized with SEIU 668 in late 2019 and have been bargaining their first contract since January 2020. The negotiation team will recommend that members vote to ratify the agreement in the coming days.

“We’re proud of what our members were able to achieve in this tentative agreement at PHMC,” SEIU 668 president Steve Catanese said Friday morning. “They’ve worked since January 2020 to get their first-ever contract, even through all of the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic. They deserve this win.”

“We’re excited that we were able to reach a tentative agreement,” SEIU 668 negotiation team member and PHMC Physician Assistant, Sumanya Narra, said. “We fought hard to get a seat at the table, because we see this as an opportunity to advocate not only for ourselves as workers, but also to advocate for the patients and communities we serve.”

SEIU 668 would especially like to thank everyone, online and in the community, who showed support of PHMC workers during negotiations.
