SEIU Local 668 Welcomes Jessica Gittens as New Communications and Policy Liaison

JessicaGittensSEIU Local 668 is excited to announce the hiring of Jessica Gittens as our union’s new Communications and Policy Liaison. Jessica most recently completed a three-month organizing apprenticeship with SEIU Healthcare PA in their New Organizing Department. As an organizing apprentice, she worked to empower nurses throughout Pennsylvania to advocate for safe staffing legislation. This legislation would improve working conditions for nurses, by limiting the number of patients a nurse could have per shift. This cap would improve patient care and reduce the risk of staff burn out.

Before her apprenticeship, Jessica was a Rehabilitation Counselor with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR). As soon as she started her career with OVR, she became a member of SEIU Local 668, and served as Chief Shop Steward in the OVR York District Office from 2015 to 2018. As Chief Shop Steward, she kept shop members informed of legislation that could potentially impact their rights to bargain or adversely affect their retirement plan.

Jessica has always had a passion for politics and advocacy. This passion led her to become a Member Organizer with SEIU Local 668 during the Together We Rise (TWR) program in 2018. Her favorite part of the program was educating members about the Supreme Court case Janus vs. AFSCME. After the TWR experience, she sought to turn that passion into a career and is very happy it led her back to SEIU Local 668.

Jessica holds an M.S in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Scranton and a B.A in Mass Communication from King’s College.
