SEIU Urges the Passage of a Responsible Revenue Package

In response to legislative leadership’s continued failure pass a revenue package that includes commonsense, recurring revenue solutions and the governor’s decision to allow the FY 17-18 budget become law, Matt Yarnell, President of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania and board member of the SEIU PA State Council issued the following statement:

“We cannot balance Pennsylvania’s budget through irresponsible gimmicks, borrowing and fund transfers – especially when a shale tax that enjoys bipartisan support in the legislature and the broad support of Pennsylvanians could help prevent the commonwealth from experiencing another credit downgrade.

“We should not mortgage our children’s future away when we can take the responsible steps of raising the minimum wage and ending corporate tax loopholes.

“SEIU applauds the governor for continuing to urge for a responsible revenue package. The bipartisan FY 2017-2018 budget makes critical investments into Pennsylvania’s future, including the services that Pennsylvanians need most – education, childcare and homecare. We need a revenue package that will fund these critical investments without sending the commonwealth over a fiscal cliff.

“We urge the legislature to continue to work toward a revenue package that includes these commonsense solutions. The future of the Commonwealth depends on it.”
