The Civil and Human Rights Committee welcomed two new members, Wanda Lorenzi-Bibbs from the Darby CAO and Richard McIntosh (Alternate) from the Beaver County CAO.  Topics of discussion were brief reviews of Civil and Human Rights concerns in each Committee person’s area.  The  Committee also voted to contribute $100 to the NAACP Special Activities Fund and a $100 to BAMN, the coalition to defend affirmative action, integration and immigration rights and fight for equality by any means necessary.  Both groups, along with the Southern Poverty Law Center, are at the forefront defending the rights of the less fortunate and disenfranchised groups in our communities.

The group reviewed the latest reports published by the Migration Policy Institute (migrationpolicy.org), Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLcenter.org), BAMN (bamn.org) and SEIU Immigration Reform.

Committee person Rayshiang Lin presented a health disparity report to the Committee, as well as at the SWEB meeting outlining the divide in health care provided to minorities.

The meeting concluded with each member pledging support for civil and human rights for all people and a pledge to be vigilant guardians of civil and human rights in our respective work places and communities.  The next meeting will be help Friday, December 4th in Harrisburg.

Respectfully submitted by,

Paul D. Gambill, Chair
