Our State Contract Negotiation Team met in Harrisburg on Monday to go over the draft proposals we’ll be submitting to the Commonwealth. We’d like to take a moment to appreciate the effort of our team, a number of which had to brave nasty weather in order to attend our meeting. The team came together for an all-day session (including a working lunch) to discuss and draft our proposals, which included reviewing all 50 articles in the current state contract. We believe we have a great starting point that will provide our Union members with a strong place to start our negotiations from and move forward.
Our priorities during negotiations will include a heavy focus on our members’ healthcare, improving the grievance process, and fighting for a fair wage increase. That being said, we’ve taken a long look at the surveys that were submitted back in 2018, and we’ll be using those to guide us when we go to the table in the coming weeks. It was clear from your feedback that these issues should be prioritized for our members.
The team will be coming back together in the beginning of March to finalize our proposal before we head to the table on March 7th. We’ll continue to provide updates as our sessions with the Commonwealth move forward.
We worked to be proactive with scheduling bargaining dates and have a number of negotiation dates already arranged through Spring. We are planning on meeting on the following dates:
March 7th and 8th
March 28th and 29th
April 11th and 12th
April 25th and 26th
May 9th and 10th
May 23rd and 24th
As with every contract negotiation, we’ll be asking members to show solidarity through workplace activities, including Purple Tuesdays and other events.
