SEIU Local 668 Statement on the SCOTUS Decision to Overturn Roe Vs. Wade

June 24, 2022

SEIU Local 688 Statement

“SEIU Local 668, a member-driven union of 19,000 public and essential service workers, 69% of whom are women, strongly condemns the United States Supreme Court’s overturning of the decades of precedent established by Roe vs. Wade in today’s Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health decision.

Today's decision proves our courts are rigged against working people. Six justices, five of whom are men, turned back the clock on reproductive rights by a half-century.

While women rightly demand more from our government, this disgraceful decision from a radical, non-representative court majority erodes their rights and says women deserve less if outdated legal statutes or male-dominated legislative bodies deem it so.

Our members know they cannot rely on the courts to support or advocate for them, so they will turn their attention to what must be done to protect themselves, their families, and their communities in this somber moment – organize, fight, and win.”
